Your home on the river… That’s Benedict Maryland. This small unincorporated town is home to less than 500 residents along the Patuxent River just south of Benedict Bridge. This small little community was originally a fishing village along the river named Benedict Leonardtown for Benedict Leonard Calvert (whose family also named the county). Similar to many Maryland communities, Benedict is rich in United States history being a part of the war of 1812 and the Civil War.

Today, the town has a couple of seafood restaurants, churches, and is adjacent to the .5 mile long Benedict Bridge where Maryland Route 231 crosses the Patuxent River from Charles County into Calvert County. A small hamlet, Benedict is a thriving port with tight-knit community involvement. Steamboats that once plied the river are long gone and daytrippers and weekenders have dwindled to create a quiet, simpler pace of life in Benedict.

Coverage is 150 acres, including residential areas, marinas, restaurants, churches, the post office, and the firehouse, this isolated waterfront village is a walkable community with less than a mile in length and features a shoreline of just 5100 feet.

Nearly all residents own their own homes. The median home value of about $230,000, but this varies dramatically being that there’s just not that many homes in general. A higher-priced home can skew the median home price from week to week.
